Can you scrape the money together for a private standing MRI?
I went private for a head and neck MRI for an ENT issue in an open scanner, as I’m claustrophobic and the local NHS MRI scanner is an old fashioned small bore tube which I can’t cope with. The scan cost a few £100s, can’t remember off hand exactly how much. It showed up an unexpected anomaly which led to me getting onto a neurosurgeon’s NHS list without much more cash outlay on my part – he switched me from his private list.
I know that they can do standing MRIs in the same open machine that I was scanned in. The resolution isn’t quite as good as it is in a closed bore scanner, but it can show up stuff that doesn’t show when lying down.
