I’ll try again. ‘Normal’ people (only joking, but the significant majority of Caucasians- Asiatics are different) develop vision that at rest is focused on distance. When we need to look at things close to, the lenses in our eye change shape, so their power changes. We’re not aware of this until our lenses become more rigid, requiring more muscular effort to change focus – causing eyestrain. This occurs in our 40s, is unavoidable and irreversible, whatever snake oil salesmen may say – it’s evolution, innit?
Some fortunate people – myopes – are different – for a number of reasons their eyes at rest are focused on near objects, and the lenses have to change to focus on distant objects, again an ability that declines in your 40s – hence the need to wear specs driving, but no need – possibly ever – to wear reading glasses
The situation is sometimes difficult to understand because unless you had your eyes tested properly as a child, you could be unaware that your distance vision wasn’t as good as it might be. How would you know?
