Hey everyone, lately, I’ve been having some trouble with my feet. I’ve been experiencing intense heel pain when I wake up in the morning, and it’s been impacting my daily runs. I’ve heard about plantar fasciitis and I’m worried I might have it. Can anyone tell me more about this condition?

Hi, not a doctor but I’ve dealt with plantar fasciitis before. It’s basically inflammation in a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. Those symptoms you’re describing definitely fit.

Don’t panic just yet! Sometimes it’s easy to jump to the worst conclusions. It could be plantar fasciitis, as Scats said, but it could also be something else. You never know.

If it is plantar fasciitis, stretching exercises can help a lot. I had it a couple of years ago and stretching really did the trick.

Here my top tips when I had plantar fasciitis that seemed to work for me:
Shoe choice is key. If you’ve been wearing shoes that don’t support your arch well, or are worn out, they could contribute to this problem. Ice therapy can also help in reducing inflammation. Try rolling your foot over a frozen water bottle after runs. Rest is also just as important as any treatment. Giving your feet a break from high-impact activities like running will allow them to recover.

In my day, we would walk barefoot in the snow uphill and never had these problems. You need to toughen up.

Ignore finn. Everyone’s experience and pain threshold is different. What might be a minor inconvenience to one person can be debilitating to another.

It’s true though, sometimes we do need to listen to our bodies and take a step back from activities that cause pain. You might want to consider consulting a health professional. They can properly diagnose you and suggest a personalized treatment plan.

Also, some products can help alleviate the pain, such as orthotic inserts, night splints, and more. I found a particular brand quite helpful but can’t recall the name right now. I’ll get back to you.

Thanks for all the advice, folks! I’ll definitely speak with my doctor about this and also look into more supportive footwear and stretching routines.
